Suck The Wisdom (and money) Out Of Flash-In-The-Pan Experiences

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

How many times have you been through a profound experience only to, a few days later, wonder what the heck happened and what was gained from it?

Let’s say for example, you are in need of finances. You really need to pay your bills that are due in three days, but are running low on cash. You need an additional $1,200 to cover your expenses. All of your efforts to improve your situation have resulted in no possitive momentum. Bare-in-mind that your efforts are based out of your current level of understanding of finances.

As you lay in your bed that night, you decide that worrying is not of God. So you muster up some faith and wing a prayer to heaven asking God for a miracle to have your immediate financial needs met. As you pray, you essentially lay down your need at His feet. You finally go to sleep.

The next day you go to your mail box to grab your mail and there is only one envelope that isn’t obviously junk mail. You open it then and there to find that it is a handwritten note scratched on a piece of notebook paper with a check inside. Of course you look at the check before reading the letter. The check reads:

After you finish jumping up and down with giddy excitement paired with massive relief, you turn your attention to the paper.

  Hey Cuz,
Thank you for the loan. Sorry for the delay in repaying.
Consider the extra $50 interest.
Joe Schmoe

You can’t believe it. You totally forgot about this money. You had given it up for dead long ago. Now it has proven to be your miracle.

Quickly, before you get sidetracked, you deposit the money and pay your bills.

You then tell God about a million times, thank you!

What just happened?

Your immediate need was met. It was profound and amazing. God is good. On one hand, your faith has increased and that is a very good thing, but on the other hand your long term situation really hasn’t changed at all. A month from now, you will likely be in the movie Groundhogs Day. You will be praying for another miracle. Is that really the life of a son or daughter of the most high God, hooked up to an unlimited inheritance in Christ?

As wonderful as it is to live paycheck to paycheck, dependent on God, He truly wants more for us.

One of the hardest hitting things the Lord has ever said to me threw me through a loop because it challenged not only my current situation, but also a longstanding limiting mindset that I had about finances.

He said, “Jeremy, slaves live hand-to-mouth, kings have war chests.”

Over the last couple of years we have survived off of the mentality I just mentioned in the story, but during the same time, God has been adamant about teaching me to grow in wisdom in finances and cooperating with Him to better ourselves.

You see, there is an aspect to God’s nature of deeply enjoying taking care of our needs. There is also an aspect to His nature of enjoying releasing to us, wisdom that will open us up to greater understanding, thus enabling us to better steward things like finances. Then He knows that we aren’t just going to plug holes in metaphorical worry dams with miracle funds, but we will have the capability to multiply the resources that He entrusts us with. Then we are no longer living to have our basic needs met, but are looking to help other have theirs met.

The takeaway is this: Some things God does one time and we are not supposed to try and duplicate. However, many of the experiences God gives us come with a substantial wisdom nugget, that if recognized, received and applied, will give you the ability to walk in mastery of that particular area of your life. You can then gift the world with the byproduct and pass on the wisdom to the next generation to build upon.

God has made the wisdom abundantly available. Just receive.

I love having exciting conversations with interesting people who are doing cool things. I recently was invited to chat with a friend named Praying Medic on his podcast. It was both a great honor and a ton of fun.

You are invited to eavesdrop on this fun and exciting conversation between me and Praying Medic.

In this episode we cover a lot of ground, discussing: hearing God’s voice, how to live from a place of rest, writing books, and much more. The interview went long enough that we recorded a second message which I will post when it is made available.

You can download it here or you can find it on itunes here.

A Moment With The King

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

This morning, I sit. Meditating. My heart rate slows and my breath also. My mind wants to wander. It wants to insight me down a rabbit trail to take me out of the moment. The moment of transformation.

Not gonna happen.

Everything in me lives and longs for what I am about to experience. That is, the realization of everything that is true about me and God…US…

I have experienced the fullness of the present moment of oneness with God many times. However, it is my constant abiding place that I often attempt to mentally vacate.

But my heart ALWAYS pulls me back. He always pulls me back, and it’s about to happen again. I can feel it.

I close my eyes and in the spirit I grab my heart and my mind and helplessly, like a child, I hand them over to God.

“Take them.” I tell Him with a confident desperation.

Then it happened. He happened. We happened.

My previously wandering  mind is quickly locked into extreme focus, clearing the channel for the Infinite, Eternal, Divine life within me to flood my consciousness.

My heart is suddenly drowned with peace. My Mind becomes still and aware that it is floating in wholeness. Joy and hope rise to the surface.

My location is the same, but I instantly have a different vantage point. My perspective in now outside of what my physical senses perceive. The never ending oneness has been realized and I become renewed with no effort on my own part other than giving up.

This is rest realized. This is my healthy obsession.

I only talk about what God has made a reality for me. Anything else is but a theory.

Entering, and living from, God’s rest is literally my source of everything. It is not rhetoric or propagandize. It is not an escape mechanism or slight of hand trick.

Knowing God and being able to be sucked into the awareness of my connection to His heart within me, and being enthralled and enamored in Him is EVERYTHING.

Every moment is a moment with the King; but every moment is not a realized moment with the King.

Wanna Influence God?

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Have you ever wondered how to influence God? Or perhaps if it’s ok to try to influence Him? Would you even dare approach the omnipotent deity that wields sovereignty with an iron fist and a hard heart?

Or is He really not like that at all?

I’m here to tell you that having influence with God is  entirely possible. But like any other Divine relational dealing, there is an artful approach and tact that should be considered. That is because relating with God in such a way is not at all a science, and is absolutely an art. An art that plays-out best through love.

I’m going to use an example from my own personal life that depicts the ways of God. I will do so, because I learned it from Him and it has become sort of a “core value” of mine.

There are people that know me and know that I am an extremely reasonable person–in that if you are cool with me, and come at me in a manner that is also reasonable, as an appeal rather than a demand–you can pretty much get me to do anything.

I’m a big softy.

I will do things that I normally wouldn’t do. I will even change my mind for a relational cause.

I will never violate my true nature or be something I’m not, but for the sake of cooperation with another person I will gladly bend, given the right circumstances.

On the flip-side, if you come at me aggressively, with demands and a line drawn in the sand, I will probably just chuckle and notify you that I am not interested in playing such games.

However, if you are willing to re-think your approach and return a second time with a more diplomatic heart, I would gladly take a look at your proposed agenda.

If you are somebody who only approaches me when you have an agenda, that tells me very clearly that I am a means to your end, and that you are not interested in knowing or relating with me as a person or with my heart.

We can still be in relationship, but this is not an ideal channel for love to flow.

I believe with all of my heart that God loves to be influenced. Not because He is flippant or unsure of Himself. Not because He is insecure and needs help, but because when somebody is so confident in themselves, in their inheritance in Him, in their right to freely access Him, that they regularly engage Him at a heart level and they can confidently say to God,

“God do that.”

And He will smile and say, “Good idea” and gladly do it.

I am not saying that God will not act on account of less than ideal interaction, because after all, God is grace.

I am saying that the key to it all is to walk in depth of love with God and interact with Him through love.

What Mr. Miyagi Would Have You Know About Rest

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Don’t you just love how the wisest of teachers seem to have a zen-like approach to leading their pupils into becoming masters of their craft?

They have tested and proven methods of imparting the greatest timeless secrets of mastery. The pupil almost gives themselves over to the guidance of the wise teacher and unquestioning obedience is standard practice.

This kind of approach doesn’t go over to well in modern western Christianity, but there is some great value juice to be sucked out of this example fruit.

Remember Mr. Miyagi in the movie Karate Kid? Of course you do! Everyone loves Mr. Miyagi!

His approach to guiding his student, Danielson, was great. Here’s why.

Daniel, a scrawny, intimidated little guy was new in town and quickly became a bully magnet. Unable to do much by way of thwarting his aggressors, Daniel, by chance became connected with Mr. Miyagi, an old man well versed in the ways of butt kicking.

Daniel was able to convince Mr. Miyagi to take him on as a protege, in order to be trained so that he could face his nemesis in a karate tournament.

But little did Daniel know, his training would look much different than he had envisioned.

Instead of learning how to punch, kick and block, Danielson (Renamed by Mr. Miyagi) was given chores.

He was told to paint a fence with a brush in each hand, and a particular from of stroke–upwards and downwards. He was also tasked with waxing his teacher’s classic car, also using a specific method of hand movement in one-at-a-time circular hand motions.

Come on, you know “Wax on, wax off!”

Danielson became jaded and frustrated that he was not being taught the way he had assumed he should be taught. Little did he know, a foundation was being built.

It wasn’t until it all came to a head as the movie was drawn to conclusion that Daniel would finally get his chance to take on his rival and claim his retribution. This time, in the ring (actually, it was a mat.)

The bout began by Danielson taking a severe beating yet again from his bully. He was facing another hopeless defeat. As he mustered one final burst of energy to lift himself off the mat, Danielson had a flash back to his training with Mr. Miyagi.

Bruised and battered, he stood tall he reverted to the positions that he was taught to take over and again while working and training with his mentor.  What seemed to be pointless and mundane exercises that doubled as slave labor suddenly, when put into practice in context, became the exact moves that would serve as the defeating blows to his enemy.

With a swift blow to his opponent, Danielson became victorious.

He even got the girl.

Now, let’s put this story in context.

This is what Mr. Miyagi would have you know about rest:

I have a lot of people ask me about hearing God, walking in healing, things like that. What God has shown me about walking in the power of supernatural “stuff’ is backwards. Much like Mr. Miyagi, my response is basic and seems like a trick, but it is not.

The truth is, that learning the art of practicing rest is where is I discovered all of my butt kicking powers.

Rest is where I discovered the voice of God, began to see visions, tapped into healing power, all of it!!!

So, how then do you discover rest, Jeremy? Well I’m so glad you asked, because that is the correct question. It is a question that I am asked a lot!

Because I am lazy and dislike doing the same thing over and over, I wrote a book to answer the question once and for all.

Even better, I have made it available for $0.99!

Go get it. I made it really short and easy to read. After all, something as simple as rest should not be over complicated. If it helps you, I’d love to hear from you.
